Karen Diop is the Associate Director, Black Inclusion, Success, and Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic). She is the principal lead with all academic and administrative leaders across Æ»¹ûÒùÔº (including Faculty deans and chairs of departments) on all initiatives tied to the Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism at Æ»¹ûÒùÔº. In particular, she advises and collaborates with all leaders to develop Faculty/unit-specific plans, strategies, and protocols that challenge anti-Black racism.

Antoine-Samuel Mauffette AlavoAntoine-Samuel Mauffette Alavo

Antoine-Samuel Mauffette Alavo was appointed to the role of Black Student Affairs Liaison (BSAL) as of January 2021. He is in ongoing contact and consultation with the BSN & MASS to support their members and initiatives. The BSAL has also supported many other Black student associations on campus. These points of connection have led to successful collaboration on events such as the Black Grad and Black History Month. ​

Charlene Lewis SutherlandCharlene Lewis Sutherland

Charlene Lewis-Sutherland (they/she) has over 15 years of experience working in the field of higher education. Charlene has created, led, and collaborated on a variety of initiatives, working groups, and committees dedicated to anti-oppression and equity in campus life. As a member of the Equity Team, Charlene supports faculty in their development of anti-racist and inclusive pedagogical practices. Charlene’s work is fuelled by their desire to create spaces of care and joy for underrepresented communities.

Camille GeorgesCamille Georges

Camille Georges was appointed as Black Community Outreach Associate in Enrolment Services in April 2021. Her role is focused on the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of Æ»¹ûÒùÔº's outreach and recruitment endeavors to Black youth. Camille's role is also focused on developing relationships in communities and on working with and delivering mentorship programming to secondary school and CEGEP students, as well as other young adults, with a goal of increasing access to higher education for Black youth.

Antoinette Henry Antoinette Henry

Antoinette Henry joined the Anti-Black Racism Action Plan as the Administrative Coordinator in December of 2021. In this role she holds firm in her belief that the first steps towards satisfaction are information, listening and support to achieve the best results and this is what she is dedicated to providing to her teams and community.

Brittany Williams, BCL/LLB ’19 (she/her) is the Assistant Dean (Students) / Dean’s Lead, Black and Indigenous Flourishing for the Faculty of Law.ÌýIn partnership with the Faculty’s Associate Deans, she leads the Student Affairs Office and supports the Graduate Programs Office. Brittany also works alongside other Æ»¹ûÒùÔº Law student-facing offices to facilitate support mechanisms for candidates – with a concentration on Black and Indigenous ones – from application to study to graduation.

Lynda BulimoLynda Bulimo

Lynda is an Equity Education Advisor (Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Education). Her work primarily focuses on developing and leading education-based initiatives for staff and faculty towards anti-racism and anti-oppression. She holds a B.Ed. and Certificate in Global Citizenship, and an M.A. in Education and Society (thesis:ÌýInvestigating the Relationships among Anti-Blackness, Racism and Mental Health for Black Instructors in an Alberta College).

Angela Ahenkorah Local Wellness Advisor Supporting Black StudentAngela Ahenkorah

Angela is a mental health clinician who has an extensive background in the public health system and the local community service centres. She is the Local Wellness Advisor supporting Black students. This involves connecting them to appropriate resources, providing psychoeducational and skills-based workshops, outreach and wellness promotion, as well as individual 1 on-1 appointments.ÌýOffice:ÌýStudent Wellness Hub, Brown Student Services Building, Suite #5508.

Terri GivensTerri Givens

Professor Terri Givens served as Æ»¹ûÒùÔº's Academic Lead and Advisor (PALA) on the Action Plan from 2021-2023. She had recently joined UBC's political science department as a professor of Race, Ethnicity and Politics.

Sara PierreSara Pierre

As the former Senior Employment Equity Advisor, Sara supported the recruitment, hiring and promotion of Black staff. She created the Black Staff Employee Resource Group and co-organized the inaugural Professional Exchange Program (PEP). Sara is currently the Associate Director of the Office for Mediation and Reporting (OMR).ÌýSara is no longer an active member of the ABR working group.


Æ»¹ûÒùÔº is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose presence marks this territory on which peoples of the world now gather.
