Our Undergraduate Dental Program (D.M.D.) curriculum is innovative and dynamic, reflecting the minds of our outstanding professors and their vision for training tomorrow's leaders in oral health care. First and foremost, we want our graduates to be professionals who possess sound judgment. We believe this is the best way to ensure that their patients, and the population at large, receive the most effective care possible鈥攈ealth care that is supported by scientific evidence and a sense of social justice.
To attain this goal, we have created a curriculum that employs cutting-edge approaches to the management of oral health problems, as well as innovative teaching and learning techniques. It focuses on the relationship between oral health and general health.
During recent years, our curriculum has changed dramatically to reflect the evolving needs of society and the dental profession. In the coming years, our curriculum will evolve further to improve the capacity of our graduates to better serve underprivileged groups in our society and to become leaders in oral health-related research and academics, organized dentistry, dental practice, and government, all with a view to addressing the enormous disparities in oral and general health that exist in society today.

During the first 16 months of the program, the Fundamentals of Medicine and Dentistry are taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. | The Dent-P program combines a preparatory year in the Faculty of Science followed by the four-year D.M.D. program in the Faculty of Dentistry. The objective of the Dent-P program is to offer students the opportunity to adapt to university-level academics before entering the rigorous curriculum of the D.M.D. program. The Dent-P program consists of two consecutive semesters of a Bachelor of Science-style curriculum. Application for admission to the Faculty of Dentistry for the Fall semester (beginning in September) will be available online as of September 1 of the previous year at mcgill.ca/applying. Please consult the Faculty of Dentistry's website at mcgill.ca/dentistry/programs for the most recent application procedures. All documents, including transcripts and curriculum vitae, must be submitted by the deadlines given below. Each application to the D.M.D. program (four years) or the DENT-P program (one year + four-year D.M.D. program) must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee; please refer to the Student Accounts website for fee details.
The Faculty of Dentistry encourages students from various backgrounds to apply. Prospective applicants are advised to pursue courses of study, whether in the humanities, the social sciences, or the natural sciences, that appeal to them. The Faculty aims to graduate socially aware, culturally-sensitive, and community-oriented practitioners who are committed to improving access to oral health care. Developing interpersonal skills such as active listening, communicating, empathy, and compassion are important if you select dentistry as a career.

Applications to the D.M.D. program must be submitted by November 1. Students applying to the Dent-P program must submit their application by March 1. International Dental Graduates interested in applying to our Degree Completion Program must do so by September 15.
For students accepted into the four-year D.M.D. program or the Degree Completion Program, notification of acceptance must be accompanied by a deposit of CAD$500, which will be applied against tuition. For students accepted into the D.M.D. program, fifty percent (50%) of the deposit fee is refundable up to June 15. For students accepted into the Dent-P program, notification of acceptance of the offer must be accompanied by a deposit of CAD$400, which will be applied against tuition. Fifty percent (50%) of the deposit is refundable up to July 15.
Deferred Admission
Admission into the first year of our D.M.D. program may be exceptionally deferred for a period of one (1) year at the discretion of the 苹果淫院 Committee. A deferral request can only be made once you receive an offer of admission. If your request for deferral is granted, the registration deposit will be deferred as well.
Requests must be submitted in writing and addressed to our Chair of 苹果淫院. This letter of a maximum of two pages should set out the reason(s) for the request, and must be submitted, along with any relevant supporting documentation, no later than July 15.
Note: Deferral admission is not granted for students accepted into the Dent-P or the Degree Completion Program.
Extenuating Circumstances
Candidates who have experienced any serious medical or personal difficulty(ies) that had a significant impact on their academic performance may claim 'Extenuating Circumstances (EXTC)' on their application. For more instructions: mcgill.ca/dentistry/4-year-dmd-program/how-apply.
Students Enrolled in a Graduate Program
Students enrolled in the D.M.D. program are not allowed to be registered simultaneously in any other program of study. Thus, students currently enrolled in graduate programs are normally expected to apply only when they are in the final year of that program. To be eligible for admission, graduate students applying to the Four-Year D.M.D. program must have submitted their written thesis by July 31 of the year they will enter the D.M.D. program (e.g., July 31, 2019 for entry in Fall 2019). Written confirmation of thesis submission must be provided by the Thesis Office (or equivalent) of the university where the student is registered for graduate studies by July 31 of the year candidates enter the D.M.D. program. Failure to provide this confirmation of thesis submission by the aforementioned deadline will result in the candidate鈥檚 offer being withdrawn.

Requirements
Applicants to the program should have either completed the following entrance requirements or be completing them by July 31 of the year of entry to the D.M.D. program.
A 120-credit (鈥渇our-year鈥�) or equivalent Bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited institution in any discipline is required. Applicants who have successfully obtained a Diploma of Collegial Studies (Dipl么me d鈥櫭﹖udes coll茅giales; 鈥淒EC鈥�) in a pre-university program can apply with a 90-credit Bachelor's degree. The program must have been undertaken on a full-time basis and should be completed in the time prescribed by the program. A full course load (e.g., 15 credits) is strongly recommended in regular sessions. Summer or other interim sessions are acceptable; however, they should not take away from regular sessions.
Applicants may be considered on the basis of a second undergraduate degree. A minimum of 45 new consecutive graded credits completed on a full-time basis must be completed by the November 1 application deadline. Completing the degree is not mandatory, but very strongly recommended.
The 苹果淫院 Office does not consider degrees without a marking or grading system; narrative transcripts are not accepted.
As an indicator of the GPA that is competitive, here are the average GPAs for admitted dental students in the past three years:
- 2020: 3.88
- 2019: 3.79
- 2018: 3.84
Basic Science Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed (with official grades submitted) all of the basic science prerequisite coursework at CEGEP or university level by May 30 of the year they will be applying. At least 4 of 7 science prerequisite courses, including labs, must be completed (with official grades submitted) by the Nov. 1 application deadline. Applicants must have successfully completed (or be in the final stages of completing) the following courses at the CEGEP or university level with laboratory or practical work in each:
- a minimum six (6) credits of Introductory Biology/Biological Sciences coursework with labs;
- a minimum six (6) credits of General (or Physical) Chemistry coursework with labs;
- a minimum three (3) credits of Organic Chemistry coursework with labs;
- a minimum six (6) credits of Introductory Physics coursework with labs (3 credits in Calculus could also count toward half of the required credits in Physics).
Grades of Pass/Fail (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) are not acceptable in coursework. Numerical or letter-class grades are required. Academic performance within these courses will be considered. Distance or correspondence education courses will be considered by the 苹果淫院 Office.
The 苹果淫院 Office may accept Advanced Levels (UK System), French Baccalaureate 补苍苍茅别 Terminale, S茅rie S, IBO Courses (Higher Level), and AP Results (College Board) as acceptable alternatives. Official test results should be sent from the examination board directly to 苹果淫院 Enrolment Services:

CASPer Test 鈥� Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics
All applicants to the Undergraduate Dental programs at 苹果淫院 are required to complete an online assessment (CASPerTM) prior to their application deadline. Completion of CASPer is mandatory in order to maintain admission eligibility.
CASPer assesses for non-cognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics that are important for successful students and graduates of our program, and will complement the other tools that we use for applicant screening to further enhance fairness and objectivity in our selection process.
In order to take CASPer, you will be responsible for securing access to a computer with audio capabilities, equipped with a webcam and a reliable internet connection on your selected test date. CASPer can be taken practically anywhere that you can satisfy the aforementioned requirements. No exceptions will be made for applicants unable to take CASPer online due to being located at sites where internet is not dependable, or due to technical or political factors.
The CASPer test is comprised of 12 sections of video and written scenarios. Following each scenario, you will be required to answer a set of probing questions under a time constraint. Each response is graded by a different rater, giving a robust and reliable view of the personal and professional characteristics important to our program. No studying is required for CASPer, although you may want to familiarize yourself with the test structure and ensure you have a quiet environment to take the test.
CASPer test results are valid for one admissions cycle. Applicants who have already taken the test in previous years will therefore be expected to re-take it.

Dental Aptitude Test (DAT)
IMPORTANT NOTE: In light of continued public health concerns regarding COVID-19, the 苹果淫院 Committee has decided to remove the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) as a requirement for entry in the undergraduate dental programs (DMD & DENT-P) for Fall 2022. This is an exceptional and temporary measure due to the pandemic.
The Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) is required for applicants seeking admissions into our D.M.D. program. The DAT must be completed no later than November of the application year (e.g. November 2020 for entry in Fall 2019). The test scores will be considered valid up to 5 years from the date the exam was taken.
Only the Perceptual Ability Test will be used in the assessment of an application. A mimimum score of 15 out of 30 is required to be considered. The DAT scores will not be used in determining an applicant's ranking.
For applicants who have written the DAT more than once, we will be using the latest test scores. The DAT can be completed in either French or English.
Applicants who completed a degree in dentistry (e.g. BDS, DMD, DDS) are exempted from taking the DAT. This exemption does not apply to applicants who partially completed studies in dentistry.
The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) offers the DAT twice per year, in November and February. Registraiton must be done by September 15th for the November test and January 15th for the February Test. We strongly recommend that you confirm these dates with the CDA. It is the candidate's responsibility to request that the DAT results be sent to 苹果淫院 by the CDA when submitting an applicaiton to our DMD Program.
Please note that results from the American DAT are accepted. The DAT scores must be submitted no later than November 3rd.

Students are officially registered in the Faculty of Science during their preparatory year and must complete the required courses and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 to continue on to the D.M.D. program.
Requirements
Applicants must be recognized residents of Quebec and enrolled in the second and final year of the Sciences Profile of the Quebec Colleges of General and Professional Education (CEGEP) to be eligible to apply for the five-year Undergraduate Dental Program (DENT-P).
The five-year Undergraduate Dental Program (Dent-P) is not open to university-level students or to students outside of Quebec. This program is only open to immediate graduates of the Quebec collegial (CEGEP) system.
Applicants who have followed a combined three-year Science program (example: 200.11, 200.12, etc.), or have followed the joint Science and International Baccalaureate program (200.10) are also eligible providing they are currently enrolled in the final year of the DCS and that they have not extended the length of their program.
Applicants must have undertaken a minimum of six courses (13.33 credits) in each regular semester.
The integrated Arts & Science program (700.A0) is also acceptable, providing the applicants have obtained the necessary competencies listed in the "Basic Science Requirements" section below.
The Faculty accepts applicants from Coll猫ge international Marie de France and Coll猫ge Stanislas as part of this category under the following conditions:
- must be a recognized resident of Quebec;
- must be in the final year (补苍苍茅别 terminale) of the S茅ries S;
- must have attended the institution, at minimum, for 1ere 补苍苍茅别 and 补苍苍茅别 terminale in full;
- must not have extended the length of their program for reasons of personal choice;
- must have an R-score along with course attestation (provided by school).
The assessment of an applicant's academic performance for CEGEP-level applicants is based on the overall R-score (cote de rendement au coll茅gial; cote R). As an indicator of a competitive cote de rendement, here are the CRC averages for admitted Dent-P students in the past three years:
- 2020: 36.48
- 2019: 36.51
- 2018: 36.85

Students in the 700.A0 program must have completed the Biology objectives of 01Y5 and 01YJ, Chemistry: 01YH and Physics: 01YF or 01YG.
Students in an IB-DEC (200.10) must complete (along with all other program requirements) a minimum of two courses (5.33 credits) in Biology, three courses (8.00 credits) in Chemistry, including Organic Chemistry, two courses (5.33 credits) in Mathematics and one course (2.67 credits) in Physics in order for their application to be considered.

- Applicants who have already obtained a Diploma of Collegial Studies, who are or have registered in an undergraduate degree program, or who have completed an undergraduate degree are not eligible.
- Applicants who have an IB Diploma from LCC or Grade 12 from Stanstead College.
