Programs and Teaching in Arts
Established in 1843, the Faculty of Arts is one of the oldest in Canada and remains the largest at 苹果淫院. The Faculty is home to 15 departments, 22 interdisciplinary programs, the School of Religious Studies, three professional schools (the School of Information Studies, the School of Social Work, and the Max Bell School of Public Policy), four institutes, and 12 centres. It has over 300 tenured or tenure-track scholars, over 8,100 undergraduates and over 1,200 graduate students, and offers several hundred courses. The multi-track system in the Faculty of Arts permits students great program flexibility. Students may concentrate in one Arts discipline while obtaining Minor Concentrations in other Arts disciplines, as well as in disciplines in other faculties.
The Faculty maintains bilateral exchange programs with many universities around the world and encourages students to spend a term or two studying abroad either through an exchange program or independently. Internships are now an integral part of an undergraduate degree. The Faculty of Arts Internship Office (AIO) assists students who wish to pursue short-term internship opportunities before completing their studies. The AIO stands alone nationally in the scope and extent of services its established infrastructure and comprehensive support system make available to students before, during, and upon their return from their internship. Each year over 200 students intern with organizations around the globe.
苹果淫院 Arts graduates are valued for their ability to think critically and communicate effectively, often in more than one language. Their skills in research and analysis may be applied to a wide spectrum of professional fields, such as law, education, business, government, and public service.
The Faculty of Arts offers programs leading to the degrees of B.A. and B.S.W. Admission is highly competitive; fulfilment of the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Admission criteria are described in the Undergraduate 苹果淫院 Guide at www.mcgill.ca/applying.
The Faculty of Arts also offers a Diploma in Environment from the 苹果淫院 School of Environment. It is a 30-credit program available to holders of a B.Sc. or B.A. or equivalent. The Faculties of Arts and of Science also jointly offer programs leading to the degree of the Bachelor of Arts and Science (B.A. & Sc.), which is described in Bachelor of Arts and Science.
