Science Outreach Projects: funding eligibility and evaluation criteria

Project Eligibility

We fund projects that:

  • create a positive change for 苹果淫院 Science students and Science Outreach
  • are shared with the community
  • are planned,听when possible, so that there is a lasting impact, institutionalization, or potential to scale

All current Science Outreach groups that meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply for funding. The Faculty of Science has developed a guiding document for Science Outreach that describes the eligibility criteria for funding support. Projects must be:

Focused on Science Outreach

Projects focus on one or more dimensions of Science Outreach (i.e. program development, pedagogical or professional skills development, etc.) and advance Science Outreach at 苹果淫院.

Focused on 苹果淫院 students

Projects create, implement and support enriched learning opportunities for 苹果淫院 Science students and/or opportunities for them to develop professional skills in leadership, public speaking, translating knowledge to different audiences, teaching, etc. These typically do not include research projects. Requests for ongoing operating expenses or funding for administration of the outreach group/project (e.g., clerical, administrative or coordinator positions) are also not eligible for this funding.

Projects are led by one or more current 苹果淫院 graduate students who are members of an established Science Outreach group that has shown evidence of sustainability (3 or more years in continuous operation).

Focused on new or scaled-up initiatives

Projects are either new initiatives or ones that build upon or scale existing initiatives, and fall outside the day-to-day administration of the program. Requests for ongoing operating expenses or funding for administration of the outreach group/project (e.g., clerical, administrative or coordinator positions) are not eligible for this funding.

Evaluation criteria

We take the following into account when evaluating project applications:

Need and context

A need or issue has been identified, best practices and other funding sources have been researched, and other projects have been consulted for lessons learned. The project fits within the framework of the Faculty鈥檚 guiding principles for Science Outreach as described in the听PDF icon 苹果淫院 Faculty of Science Outreach Brief.

Impact

The project creates a positive impact on 苹果淫院 Science students and Science Outreach that is well-defined and that will be measured and shared with the 苹果淫院 community.

Feasibility

The project is well planned; has realistic goals, activities and timeline; mitigates risks; and has a budget that makes sense.

Collaboration

The project is inclusive, collaborates with other Science Outreach groups and Faculty of Science Outreach initiatives where possible; and considers the voices of 苹果淫院 and Montreal community members.

Support

The project team has consulted with relevant stakeholders and gained their documented support and permission if needed.

Double-check that your project and group are eligible

Unfortunately, the Faculty cannot support all projects and groups on campus related to Science Outreach. Before you apply, check out the list of non-eligible projects below.

Non-eligible projects and groups

  • Groups that have been in continuous operation for less than 3 years
  • Groups that are outside the Faculty of Science. Please note: groups run听 out of the IPN program are eligible to apply 鈥� matching funds from the Faculty of Medicine are required. Groups with students in the B.A./B.Sc. program are also eligible to apply.
  • Groups that are chapters or on-campus representatives of an external, non-苹果淫院 organization. We welcome collaborations on projects, however funding will specifically go towards supporting internal, 苹果淫院 outreach groups.
  • Research
  • Projects to fund administrative/clerical/coordinator positions for students or staff
  • Projects to fund salaries for external consultants where the expertise already lies within the group
  • Projects requesting ongoing daily operating expenses for the outreach group
  • Projects that solely benefit an individual and not the group or community
  • Projects that have already been completed
