Dr. Stuart Lubarsky among this year's winners of this year's Learner and Faculty Teaching Innovation Award

As part of an ongoing Proud to Teach campaign in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), the office of the Vice-Dean Education presented awards earlier this month during Quebec's Teacher Appreciation Week, for teaching innovation, to faculty and teaching staff, and to learners. The goal of these awards is to recognize innovative teaching strategies that are learning- and learner-focused.

Dr. Lubarsky and Dr. Robert Sternszus,听(MDCM, MA(Ed.), FRCP / Faculty Member, 苹果淫院 IHSE / Pediatrician, Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital) collaborated to develop聽Foundations in Medical and Health Sciences Education,听a non-clinical elective intended for clerkship students in their 3rd聽or 4th聽year of the undergraduate medical curriculum at 苹果淫院, as well as for residents, fellows at all levels of postgraduate training, and health professions education students.聽

鈥淭he Foundations in Medical and Health Sciences Education elective was developed to respond to a need to expose medical students and residents to core principles of teaching, learning and scholarship in health sciences education (HSE). Our hope was to stimulate learners to pursue career paths in HSE, whether as clinician-educators, program directors/leads or researchers. In developing their group projects, our students have tackled a variety of bold, contemporary themes such as transgender and gender-diverse healthcare, precision medicine and environmental health. Many of our alumni continue to be actively involved in HSE and pursued master鈥檚 degrees and research projects in the field. We are extremely proud of this unique and innovative course and are grateful for the recognition provided by this award.鈥 - Stuart Lubarsky and Robert Sternszus
