Teacher Certification for B.Ed. Students

The information on this page only applies to 苹果淫院 undergraduate students in B.Ed. programs.

  • Information for MATL (graduate) Students can be found 听or by emailing matl.education [at] mcgill.ca.
  • Information for Ministry Students (Temporary Teaching Permit Holders) can be found on this other page.

Teacher Certification in Quebec is the responsibility of the听Minist猫re de l'脡ducation et de l'Enseignement sup茅rieur听(MEES). Graduates from programs which satisfy Provincial eligibility requirements are recommended to the Ministry for Quebec Teacher Certification by the Faculty of Education.

鉂椻潡鉂 **FALL 2023/WINTER 2024**听Graduating students are exceptionally allowed to send their applications by email to brevet.education [at] mcgill.ca. Please disregard any听instructions on this webpage that refer to printed documents and/or submitting applications in-person to the ISA Office.

Take note of these important considerations ahead of preparing your application:

  • All students graduating from a B.Ed. program are required to submit the documents to apply for a provincial Teaching Diploma or Permit to the Internships & Student Affairs Office (Education Building, Room #243) by the approved deadline; early applications will not be accepted and late applications may delay receipt of permit/diploma.
  • Even if you do not think that you need certification at this time, apply now as it can be a complicated and lengthy process later on.
  • The ISA Office submits the documentation on your behalf to the Ministry after your 苹果淫院 transcript indicates that you have graduated; upon receipt of the documentation, the Ministry is responsible for the processing and distribution of permits/diplomas; processing times can vary, so please be patient and recognize that the ISA/苹果淫院 does not have control of this process.
  • The diploma/permit will be mailed to you at the mailing address that听you specify on your application; therefore, please be sure to include a permanent address where you can still receive mail anywhere from 6 months to a year later.
  • Employers in Quebec are aware that there is a long delay between 苹果淫院 graduation and receipt of the actual permit/diploma and, in general, do not require an interim letter of attestation from 苹果淫院.
  • Individuals with a Quebec teaching license who wish to teach in another province or in another country must first apply for and receive their Teacher Certification in Quebec before applying directly to the Teacher Certification Agency in the other relevant province or country. It is recommended that applicants intending to teach in locations other than the Province of Quebec obtain information beforehand concerning the requirements for certification; links and information听for other provinces is available in the Career Services section.

If you require proof/documents/a letter of attestation for an employment application

You can print an automatic "Proof of Graduation" letter from Minerva as soon as 鈥渄egree granted鈥 appears on your transcript (Student Menu >Student Records Menu >Letters 鈥 Proof of Enrolment).
If this does not meet the employer's needs, please email isa.education [at] mcgill.ca with the details of your request. Letters will only be provided if specifically required by an employer.

Submission Period

Note:听These deadlines do not apply to International students, who should submit their documents as soon as their work permit has been issued (in some cases this can only be requested after graduation).

  • December 1 鈥 January 31: Fall Graduation (May Convocation)
  • March 1 鈥 April 30: Winter Graduation (May Convocation)
  • August 1 鈥 September 30: Summer Graduation (Oct/Nov Convocation)

TAKE NOTE - TIMELINE FOR RECEIVING YOUR CERTIFICATION

Our office cannot start processing applications until weeks after the submission deadline. Only once your Official Transcript with Degree Granted stamped on it is available (usually a few days after the Senate meeting for Degree Approval), our office will be able to obtain a copy to include with your application. Once all the applications have been prepared by our office, they will be sent to the Ministry of Education. The Ministry will then forward your judicial record check to the S没ret茅 du Qu茅bec to be verified. Once they receive a response back, the Ministry will then process your documents and send your certification directly to you. This entire process takes a couple of months and the ISA Office is not able to update students on the status of their applications once they have been sent to the Ministry. Note: failure to submit all documents by the last date of the submission period will result in a delay in the processing of your teaching permit.
