Description of planned Activities
The islands suffer from problems of recruitment and retention of young professionals. This project addresses this and has made a range of contacts on the islands in both the public and the community sector. All parties are working towards the success of this project. The first two years (2005-06, 2006-07) saw the preparation of community and student support measures for the recruitment and selection of the students. In 2007-08, a social work student undertook a field placement in the region and the project concentrated on a retention strategy. While a post became available, the student intern did not have the seniority to retain the position.

Description of planned Activities
This project is reinforced by a report which was commissioned in 2005 to assess the needs of the Anglophone population. The first year (2005-06) of the project prepared the way for field placements in subsequent years. A number of aspects of the project have been developed, including a website for students and potential employers and a strategy to attract students to summer work in the region. Discussions continue with educational establishments. One aspect of this project is the potential to develop a bursary program with the regional partners. Options for the sustainability of the project will be examined.
