Journalism Strategies Conference

19-21 April 2012, Thomson House, 3650 McTavish

The , taking place this spring in Montreal, is a concerted effort to re-imagine journalism in Canada through policy-making in a democratic arena. As the media landscape changes through continuing technological advances, the role of journalism in society has moved away from serving citizens and has become more and more entangled in serving commercial goals. Through a three-day bilingual conference, the organizers of Journalism Strategies aim to create a forum of public and academic discussion that can result in a set of policy recommendations aimed to promote balance in Canada鈥檚 media ecology. The conference is co-sponsored by Media@苹果淫院 and will be taking place in venues both at 苹果淫院 and Concordia University.

Speakers include Tony Burman, former head of CBC and Al Jazeera English, Dominique Payette, a former Radio-Canada journalist and current professor at Laval University, and Kai Nagata, a former journalist for both CBC and CTV. The full program for both the free, public events and the registered-only sessions of the conference can be found .

Journalism Strategies Videos

In line with the conference's objective to make the discussion and the recommendations for policies governing journalism in Canada as participatory as possible, the organizers of Journalism Strategies have asked professionals, academics, and students to make a short video portrayal of their thoughts. Some of the videos can be found at the links below, while the full list can be found at the page.
