The Beaverbrook Fund for Media@苹果淫院 is pleased to present a public lecture by prominent media theorist and Beaverbrook Visiting Scholar, John Durham Peters. In his lecture, 鈥淔ree Speech in a Global Era鈥�, he will explore ideas about the principle of free expression in a time of globalization, resurgent religion, and radical transformation in the conditions of communication. The talk will consider the philosophical and historical underpinnings of ideas about free speech and examine the challenges facing them today.

Professor Peters, the F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Professor of Communications Studies at the University of Iowa, specializes in media and culture, and examines communications in its broad historical, legal, philosophical, religious and technological context. He is the author of (Chicago, 1999) and (Chicago, 2005), is a co-editor of Canonic Texts in Media Research (Cambridge, 2003), and (Boulder, 2004), and is the author of over 50 articles and book chapters. Professor Peters will be visiting 苹果淫院 from March 5th to March 15th.
The Beaverbrook Fund for Media@苹果淫院 was established in 2006 through the generosity of the . The Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation was created by Lord Beaverbrook (1879-1964), a Canadian businessman, statesman and newspaper magnate who grew up in New Brunswick as William Maxwell Aitken.
