Transportation & Urban Sustainability: The Ghosts of Affordable Housing - Access and Health
Our future prosperity depends not only on a sustainable material economy, but also on a sustainable social economy. As populations increasingly urbanize, access to affordable housing -- and its urban landscape assets -- becomes a critical marker of equity, and an indicator of a socially just and sustainable society.聽Prof. Debbie Niemeier's (UC Davis)聽talk used the rise and fall of affordable housing in San Francisco to explore what happens when dubious infrastructure decisions coupled with a lack of government transparency are confronted with sudden economic growth.

Debbie Niemeier is a and founding Director for the at UC Davis. Prof. Niemeier is a member of the National Academy of聽Engineering Board on Energy and Environmental Systems. She serves on the science advisory board for Capital Public Radio, and writes their blog on energy and the environment. She chairs the Policy and Environment Cluster of NECTAR, the Network on European Communications and Transport Activities Research. She has served on the Mars Corp. Sustainability Council as well as numerous other sustainability-related boards.
