Program Requirements
Le certificat d鈥櫭﹖udes sup茅rieures en traduction juridique est une formation sp茅cialis茅e con莽ue pour outiller les 茅tudiants et les professionnels des milieux du droit et des affaires qui souhaitent enrichir leurs connaissances ou 艙uvrer en traduction, en co茅criture et en r茅daction juridiques dans des contextes bilingues ou plurilingues, tant dans le secteur priv茅 que public. Cette formation comprend la traduction du fran莽ais vers l鈥檃nglais ou de l鈥檃nglais vers le fran莽ais.
Les principes et pratiques jurilinguistiques sont 茅tudi茅s 脿 l鈥檃ide des techniques et des outils les plus r茅cents. Tous les cours ont lieu sur place 脿 l鈥橴niversit茅 苹果淫院. Le programme d鈥檜ne dur茅e maximale de trois ans peut 锚tre achev茅 en deux trimestres universitaires (automne et hiver) et peut 锚tre commenc茅 脿 l鈥檃utomne ou 脿 l鈥檋iver.

CCTR 530 Jurilinguistics: Theory and Practice (3 unit茅s)

Traduction : Introduction to the theory and practice of legal translation, focus on theoretical aspects of jurilinguistics and their application to the practice and culture of normative legal translation in selected contexts such as legal briefs, legislation, regulations, decrees, court judgments and contracts. Particular attention will be paid to terminology and legal rewriting focused on target readers鈥� need to understand both contexts and specialized content, in other words the production of readable, useable texts.

CCTR 540 (Co)Writing Techniques for Jurilinguists (3 unit茅s)

Traduction : Drafting of legal documents in a clear and concise manner in unilingual, bilingual and multilingual contexts. The processes and procedures for (co)writing plain yet precise language will be the focus of practical exercises in (co)writing and translating various legal genres. Familiarity with the stylistic resources of both source and target languages will be studied with a viewto making (co)writing and translation outcomes reliable, idiomatic and readable.

Traduction : Students produce translated texts in a simulated translation office. A reviser will work with students under the guidance of the course instructor. CCTR 520 Applied Research: Lexicography/Recherche en lexicographie (3 unit茅s)

Traduction : The material of this course can be divided into three major parts: The study of the basic structures of the lexicon, lexical units, word formation, lexical norms and standardization. A comparative study of certain aspects of the English and French lexicons and their varieties in the context of translation in Canada. Research in a specialized language domain normally considered beyond the scope of general language lexicons. / Ce cours comporte trois grands volets : 脡tude des structures fondamentales du lexique, des unit茅s lexicales, de la formation des mots, des normes lexicales et de la normalisation. 脡tude comparative de certains aspects des lexiques anglais et fran莽ais et de leurs variantes dans le contexte de la traduction telle qu'elle se pratique au Canada. Recherche dans une langue de sp茅cialit茅 sortant du cadre des lexiques g茅n茅raux.

CCTR 550 Glottopolitics and Public Institutions (3 unit茅s)
Vue d'ensemble
Traduction : Translation policy in unilingual, bilingual and multilingual jurisdictions. Glottolinguistic theory and its applications in domestic, supranational and international organizations will be the focus of case studies highlighting practical examples of applied translation policy in legal contexts and the effects of that policy on the translation of and access to government services and legal proceedings as well as the emergence of a right to translation in jurisprudence.
