While pollination is a textbook example of a mutualism, where both parties benefit, flowers and their animal visitors are in it for themselves, and will happily get what they need – pollination or food, respectively – without paying for it in return. The lure of cheating and the desire to not get cheated have lead to some of flowers' most interesting adaptations. Professor Anna Hargreaves will lead you on a fascinating tour of the constant behind-the-scenes battle of pollination, and the weird and wonderful ways plants fight it, from ballistic pollen to toxic nectar.
