Food Security Summit fosters collaboration between student food advocacy groups

Representatives from student groups across campus and beyond gathered in the University Centre for a Food Security聽聽on March 15 to discuss ways to improve the sustainability, accessibility, and affordability of food systems at 苹果淫院. The summit included presentations, 鈥渧isioning sessions鈥 where attendees exchanged ideas on discussion questions in smaller groups, and a free lunch.聽

Mac Undergrad Sam Liptay attended the summit as a representative for the聽. Liptay explained in an interview with聽The Tribune聽that one reason he came out to the event was to bring his perspective as a food producer to larger conversations about food security.聽

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 really interesting to see all the different levels at which people are working with food, whether it鈥檚 making it, growing it, supplying it or processing it [鈥 or even people doing waste diversion,鈥 Liptay said. 鈥淎nd understanding these problems are all part of one system that different people in the food system can contribute to in different ways.鈥
