Melzack Lecture Series - Anda Dragomir PhD "Effectively engaging patients towards behaviour change: an Introduction to Motivational Communication"

Motivational Communication is a time-efficient, patient-centred communication style used to promote patient engagement and sustained health behaviour change. ThisÌýone-hour introductoryÌýpresentation will present theÌý11 core competenciesÌýof Motivational Communication. Case examples will be used to highlight how this communication style can lead to more effective consultations,Ìýimproved therapeutic alliancesÌýandÌýreduced frustration for bothÌýpatient and healthcare provider.

This seminar will be facilitated byÌýDr.ÌýAndaÌýDragomir (PhD), a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral researcher at Concordia University. She has extensive knowledge of behavioural intervention methodology and has been involved in theÌýdesign and development of effective behaviour change interventions. Her area of expertise is training healthcare professionals in communication skills for improved patient self-management.Ìý Ìý

Ms.ÌýBrigitte VoisardÌý(presence to be confirmed), is a PhD candidate in clinical psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She is co-leading the development and testing of the Motivational Communication training curriculum.Ìý
