Office of Social Accountability in Nursing Welcomes its First Director

Ingram School of Nursing appoints Josée Lavallée as the inaugural director of the Office of Social Accountability in Nursing.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Josée Lavallée, BScN, RN, MSc, as Director of the Office of Social Accountability in Nursing (OSAN) in the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, effective May 1, 2023 for a two-year term.

Under the direction of Ms. Lavallée, the OSAN will support equity-based nursing education, leadership, service and research at the ISoN as well as serve as an umbrella for the Global and Indigenous Health Nursing and the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) activities of the School. The Office will act as a resource to various ISoN committees, working collaboratively with faculty and staff to thread EDI-AR concepts in processes and programs, including recruitment and admission of students, and recruitment of faculty.

Ms. Lavallée is a Red River Michif woman from Winnipeg on Treaty 1 Territory, homeland of the Red River Métis Nation. She earned her MSc in Community Health Sciences from the University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College of Medicine and worked as a graduate research assistant at the University of Manitoba and a nursing instructor at l’Université de Saint-Boniface. Her clinical experience is in the areas of primary care and community health nursing. She has experience as an Indigenous Research Consultant for research based out of the University of Manitoba and serves her community as a Youth Representative for the Manitoba Métis Federation’s Bison Local.
