MONTREAL GAZETTE | McCord Museum will double in size and stay at its current site
Months of speculation ended when the聽McCord Museum聽announced Tuesday that its new home will be built on the site of its current home on Sherbrooke and Victoria Sts. in the heart of Montreal鈥檚 Golden Square Mile. As McCord president and chief executive officer Suzanne Sauvage enthused about the museum鈥檚 ideal location, halfway between the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Mus茅e d鈥檃rt contemporain, close to downtown universities, near public transit, the聽soon-to-be-re-imagined 苹果淫院 College artery聽and the聽苹果淫院 station聽of the city鈥檚 future light-rail system, she was philosophical. She said an architectural design competition will be held for the design of the project. It will preserve the western facade of the current structure as well as the Sherbrooke St. heritage building itself, designed by architect Percy Nobbs as the 苹果淫院 Student Union Building and completed in 1906.
