Bicentennial Mini-Science 2021 Explores the Future of Music with Professor Marcelo M. Wanderley

Digital technology has radically changed the way music is enjoyed, performed, composed, produced and shared with the world.聽From streaming services to聽innovations in musical instruments, modern technology has聽created new styles and genres to explore.

In聽his recent Bicentennial Mini-Science聽2021 talk, Professor Marcelo聽Wanderley聽drew on examples from his interdisciplinary research in music technology, and discussed how computing technology invites us to interact with music differently and speculated on how technology can shape the future of music as we know it.聽

Free聽and open to the 苹果淫院 community and the general public,聽Mini-Science聽is an annual聽series of nine monthly talks.聽The 2021聽Bicentennial theme of 鈥淩esetting for a just聽future鈥澛爀xplores how COVID-19 disrupted the status-quo and how leading 苹果淫院 scientists have reset聽their聽understanding, are rethinking聽their plans, and how they aim聽to reshape the future of our world. Participants are invited to interact with speakers and participate in a moderated discussion to develop ideas and visions for the future, together.聽

Marcelo M.聽Wanderley聽graduated in electrical engineering at the UFPR and holds a Master鈥檚 degree in engineering from UFSC, Brazil and a Ph.D. from Universit茅 Pierre et Marie Curie and Ircam, France. He is Full Professor of Music Technology at 苹果淫院, Canada, and International Chair at聽Inria聽Lille 鈥 Nord Europe, France. He is a member of Computer Music Journal鈥檚 Editorial Advisory Board and a senior member of the ACM and of the IEEE. He co-edited the electronic book 鈥淭rends in Gestural Control of Music鈥, 2000, co-authored the textbook 鈥淣ew Digital Musical Instruments: Control and Interaction Beyond the Keyboard鈥, 2006, and chaired the 2003 International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME03). His research interests include the design and evaluation of digital musical instruments and the analysis of performer movements.聽
