The 2021-2022 Golden Violin Award is coming soon, with new prizes!
The Golden Violin Award was听established听in 2006 by听businessman听and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to 苹果淫院鈥檚 Schulich School of Music.听His unflagging support of听our听musicians has,听through this award,听seen听nearly听$400,000听given听to听top听Schulich string听players. For听last year鈥檚听15th听edition, the听winning听prize increased from $25,000 to $30,000, and for this year鈥檚听16th听edition听the Schulich Foundation听has made another substantial investment in听our听young artists鈥� futures.听听

In addition to the $30,000 scholarship for the winner, the finalists who place second and third will each receive $15,000 and听$5,000听respectively.听This generous听contribution towards the lives of our students will have lasting听and meaningful听impact. We are听grateful for the听continued encouragement听offered to our students by the Schulich Family and听look forward to celebrating the achievements of our finalists.听听
The Golden Violin Award Semifinal takes place听on Friday, December 17 beginning at 7:00 pm, and the听Final is on Sunday, December 19 at 2:00 pm, with the prize听ceremony and winner announcement following jury deliberation.听Both events will be webcast live from Pollack Hall, and we look forward to welcoming back audiences听to our concert hall to cheer on the finalists听in person.听听
The 2021-2021 Golden Violin Award semifinalists are听violinists听Julia Mirzoev,听Astrid Nakamura,听Samuele听Parrini,听Fr茅d茅ric Pouliot,听Kiarra Saito-Beckman, and听Zoey Dabin Yang. These string players听were听selected听from听an amazing听field听of preliminary applicants.听Find out more about them here.听
The jury is听comprised听of听Schulich School of Music faculty members听Marcelle Mallette,听Richard Roberts, and听Victor听Fournelle-Blain (Final), and external panelists Guillaume听Sutre听(Semifinal), Fred Sherry,听and Mayumi Seiler 鈥斕�and is听chaired by Schulich professor Matt Haimovitz.听听
For the听Semifinal,听candidates will present a varied program of 30 minutes of music of their听choice, which must听include repertoire from the Classical period.听Join us in person or online to听hear the remarkable playing听of these听six听Schulich string players!听
