It is based on the lunar calendar, which is why Chinese New Year is generally celebrated around the same time. This year,听Tet marks the beginning of the Year of the Cat in the Vietnamese zodiac calendar.

Tet celebrates the Lunar new year.听Tet is not just a holiday, it's the sentiments and preparation that come with it. It's the occasion for us to gather to celebrate the upcoming year and talk about what we have done in the year passing. I am celebrating with my family in Vietnam. My family's听Tet traditions include making Chung cake with my grandparents, decorating the house, having听Tet feasts, and visiting relatives' houses.听
