PhD Oral Defense: Chemical Ecology of Azoxyglycosides: Plant-Insect Interactions Between Neotropical Cycads (Zamiaceae) and Leaf Herbivores

Thursday, October 9, 2014 09:15
Macdonald-Stewart Building MS2-022 (Faculty Lounge), 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

PhD Oral Defense of Alberto Prado, Department of Plant Science

Cycad plants protect all their tissues with a group of toxic metabolites, called azoxyglycosides (AZGs). Only specialist herbivores can feed on the cycad foliage. We describe phenological changes in leaf structure and toxicity in the Panamanian cycad Zamia stevensonii which correlate with patterns of activity and herbivory by specialist insects.

Everyone in the 苹果淫院 community is welcome to attend a PhD oral defense. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our PhD candidates.
