History of Sex and Gender

• Interdisciplinary coverage of sex and gender related topics, including health issues. Contains articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, etc. from 1972 on.

History of Medicine

• (HSTM) The HSTM database provides access to journal articles, conference proceedings, books, book reviews, and dissertations in the history of medicine and allied fields, science and technology.

  NOTE: Most of the medical entries date from 1991 to 2004, so to locate earlier works on the history of medicine it is best to consult the Subject Catalogue of the History of Medicine and Related Subjects (Osler Ref folio ZW 1 W447s 1980 - 18 volumes), published by the Wellcome Library, for the period 1900-1978. Material from 1979-1991, and a great deal more, can be found in the , which contains records for books, journals, reports, pamphlets, theses, patents and images. Later references can also be found in the general history indexes listed below.

• is an online service providing a wide range of full text information covering law, news, and business. Coverage is international but varies in depth for various countries and states. The legal section contains U.S., Canadian and European historical and current court decisions, as well as articles from law journals and reports.

• Æ»¹ûÒùÔº's WorldCat Discovery Catalogue lists almost all of the printed holdings in the various branches of the Æ»¹ûÒùÔº Library, as well as electronic, microform and audio-visual material.

Indexes

• IndexCat is both a catalogue and an index, containing over 4.5 million records to journal articles, books, pamphlets, reports, dissertations and portraits, making this a great source for locating primary material in medical history. The references are multilingual and cover medicine and allied areas. Coverage is of material from antiquity through 1950.
• Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) MEDLINE is a major bibliographic index of journal articles covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the pre-clinical sciences going back to 1950, including some historical articles.
• covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines, including medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, pharmacology, physiology and linguistics. This database indexes material back to 1806, which makes this an excellent source for primary material as well as articles on the history of psychology and related subjects.
• This is the on-line version of The Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature, an index to U.S. popular periodicals. The online version indexes material from 1890 to 1982. You can get more recent material, plus some full text, by opening the database selection area and selecting Readers' Guide Full Text
• allows for searching for articles by topic, author, source title, and/or author address, as well as by cited author and/or cited work. Science citations go back to 1900, making this a source for finding historical, primary material.

Over 118 countries are profiled in this database. Results are full text and coverage is contemporary.
• This is an easy way to search through the full text of a number of 19th and 20th century newspapers, including the New York Times and the Montreal Gazette. Much of the content is free, but if one needs to purchase an article here check the Æ»¹ûÒùÔº Library Catalogue to see if we have it from another source.

Films

• This is a collection of free online films, including public health films. The subset of the Prelinger Archives is particularly useful.
• This is the online catalogue of films made by the National Film Board, founded in 1939 to make films for the Canadian Government. One can browse by subject and view on line clips. The films can be viewed at their downtown Montreal office.

Transcripts and narratives

• Database of 2,000+ transcripts of counseling and therapy sessions and 44,000 pages of first-person narratives illuminating the experience of mental illness and treatment. Also includes secondary reference works material.
