The Regroupement Droit, changements et gouvernance welcomes a听Constitutional Moment talk with Cheryl Saunders, Professor Emeritus, University of Melbourne, as part of Professor Johanne Poirier's Constitutional Writing class.

Abstract:

This seminar will explore ways of thinking about and determining processes for constitutional design in divided societies. In doing so, it will draw on a range of cases in which constitutional transition is presently ongoing, many of which have been affected by conflict. It will draw a contrast between these and other states in which change is proposed in relatively peaceful circumstances, of which Canada and Australia are examples.

Speaker:

Cheryl Saunders has specialist interests in Australian and comparative public law, including comparative constitutional law and method, intergovernmental relations and constitutional design and change. She is a President Emeritus of the International Association of Constitutional Law, a former President of the International Association of Centres for Federal Studies, a former President of the Administrative Review Council of Australia and a senior technical advisor to the Constitution Building program听of International IDEA. She has held visiting positions in law schools in many parts of the world and is an officer of the Order of Australia and a Chevalier de l鈥橭rdre National de la l茅gion d鈥檋onneur de la France.
