Some companies and organizations offer scholarships or bursaries of particular interest to FMT students. While we can't guarantee that we'll always know about all of them, we'll post information for you about the ones we do find. Then it's up to you to apply for them!
Students from beef farms/ranches should note: many breed associations in Canada provide scholarships (Angus, Shorthorn, Charolais, Simmental, Hereford, etc). Contact fmt.macdonald [at] mcgill.ca (us) or check their youth association pages for details.Ìý

Canadian Co-Operative Wool Growers 4-H Scholarships*

The Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers in association with 4-H Canada are offering two $500 scholarships to 4-H members planning to attend a Canadian university or college in the Fall in an agriculture-based program, ideally with a focus on sheep-related studies. McDonald’s Canada Future of Agriculture 4-H Scholarship*

In partnership with McDonald's Canada, 4-H Canada offers eight (8) scholarships, valued at $5,000 each, for senior 4-H members across Canada that aim to advance important work in sustainability through a career in agriculture. For more information, please click . Deadline: Late May/early June.

John Deere Canada 4-H Scholarships*

This award, valued at $1,000 (15 available) is available to applicants who are aged 16+, and in their final year of high school or CEGEP or currently studying at a college or university. They must be a 4-H member in good standing and planning to attend or continue to study at a post-secondary institution in September. Applicants must provide a 500-word essay on a specific topic, 1 reference letter, and show their acceptance from a full-time trade school/college/university program as part of the application form.Ìý Students can apply . TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship

12 scholarships sponsored by TD - valued at $3,000 each - are available to 4-H members who plan to pursue a post-secondary education at a Canadian college or university in agriculture, ag-science, or agri-business in SeptemberÌý Deadline to Late May/early June.

Hereford Youth Scholarship

Up to 4 $2,500 scholarships are awarded annually to current or past registered members of the Canadian Junior Hereford Association who are in the process of continuing their studies leading to a career in the livestock industry. Applications are evaluated on a number of criteria including academic transcripts, references and career goals. For more information and to apply, click .Ìý Deadline to apply: June 1.

OYF Memorial Scholarship

Two $1000 scholarships are awarded annually by Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers to individuals pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture. Students entering their first year of an agricultural diploma or degree program, or already studying in such a program may apply. Click for more information. Deadline to apply: June 30.

Jersey Canada Youth Scholarships

Jersey Canada offers three scholarships of $1,000 each to recognize outstanding interest, knowledge and achievement in the Jersey breed, as well as agriculture in general. The scholarships are available to all young Canadian Jersey enthusiasts enrolled in at least the second year of study at any post-secondary College, Trade School or University. Candidates must not have previously been awarded the Jersey Canada Youth Scholarship. For more information and to apply, click . Deadline in September.

Lely Future of Dairy Scholarships

Two (2) $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to deserving, qualified students who are legal residents of Canada or the US. To apply for a scholarship, students must be enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited institution of higher education for the 2024-2025 academic year and participating in a program that can equip them to contribute to the dairy industry. Tronia Post-Secondary Scholarships

This competition is open to all students enrolled in an agribusiness or related program. Recipients will be chosen based on leadership qualities, demonstrated involvement in extracurricular and community activities, and academic standing. Students must have an academic average of 80% or higher. Two $975 scholarships are awarded annually. For more information and to download the form click . Deadline to apply: October.

Warren Grapes Agricultural Education Fund

The objective of the Warren Grapes Agricultural Education Fund is to promote agricultural and silvicultural education and learning among the English-speaking farm and rural community of Quebec through the provision of bursaries. The Fund was created in September 1998 in honour of the late Warren Grapes who served many years as QFA president and was an inspiration to all. The Fund provides bursaries to support Canadian citizens/residents pursuing secondary and post-secondary studies in recognized agriculture or silviculture programs. The bursaries are a direct grant of monies to recipients to cover any and all reasonable costs related to the pursuit their studies. For more information contact qfa [at] upa.qc.ca. Congratulations to 2023 Warren Grapes Agricultural Education Bursary recipients Libby Richardson, Amanda Lapointe, River Morse, Megan Bergevin and McKenna Richardson.ÌýThe bursaries were awarded at the QFA AGM in November 2023.

Holstein Canada Education Awards

These awards are for regular or junior members of Holstein Canada, or sons/daughters of a member, who have completed at least one year of university/college (or Cégep in Quebec). Six bursaries of $1000 will be awarded as such: Western Canada (1), Ontario (2), Quebec (2) and Atlantic Canada (1). Consideration will be given to farm involvement & work experience, youth program involvement, career choice, and scholastic performance. For more information and the application form, please click . Loran Scholars*

The Loran Scholars Foundation looks beyond grades to identify values-driven youth who demonstrate strength of character, a deep commitment to service, and exceptional leadership potential.

Offered in partnership with 25 Canadian universities, the Loran Award and renewable for up to four years of undergraduate studies. But it’s not just about financial support: It's about personal growth. Loran Scholars benefit from a four-year leadership-enrichment program, financial support for undergraduate studies in the form of a tuition waiver and living stipend, diverse opportunities for experiential learning, one-on-one mentorship from a business or community leader, scholar gatherings, and a long-term community of peers, alumni, and supporters from coast to coast to coast.

Financial support includes:

  • An annual living stipend of $12,000
  • A tuition waiver of up to $12,000 annually, tenable at one of our partner universities
  • Up to $14,000 for the summer experiential learning program

Applicants not selected for a Loran Award are still eligible for a one-time entrance award of $6,000 for Loran Finalists or $3,000 for Loran Provincial and Territorial Awards.

Holstein Quebec Education Awards

These awards are offered to regular members and junior members of and sons/daughters of a member, who are currently completing a DEP in agriculture or who have already completed at least one year in an agricultural program at the college or university level and are returning to school. Five awards of $500 are given annually. Students must be interested in the dairy industry. To be eligible, the candidate must complete the application form, provide a letter of recommendation and submit their documents by January TBD.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership*

Twenty renewable scholarships are awarded to Canadian (or Permanent Resident) students in their last year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec) who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes funds towards tuition and living expenses each year at a Canadian post-secondary institution (for up to a maximum of four years). Opportunities for summer employment, mentoring and annual activities are also included. Based on community leadership and academics (75% average or higher). For info, click . FRAQ Education Bursaries

These bursaries are designed to encourage academic excellence in the field of agriculture. Application is open to members of the Fédération de la relève agricole du Québec (FRAQ) who are currently enrolled in agricultural programs, either at the professional, collegial or university level. The bursaries are offered in partnership with la Financière agricole du Québec. A bursary of $750 is available to students currently pursuing studies in a collegial program. Canadian Agri-Business Education Foundation (CABEF) Awards*

CABEF is granting seven (7) awards, valued at $2,500 each, to students in their final year of high school or Cegep and entering a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution agricultural program. Applicants will be assessed on the combination of their leadership attributes, academic standing, and answer to the essay question: "What do you consider to be the two main opportunities for the Canadian agriculture and food industry and which one inspires you the most?". Chapeau les filles!

Chapeau les filles (HatsÌýOff to You!) is awarded to female students that study in technical and professional programs thatÌýare traditionally male-dominated occupations. It is toÌýencourage and to value young women's study efforts in thoseÌýoccupations.ÌýThis award is offered by the Ministère de l'Éducation et Enseignement Supérieur. Future Masterfeeder Scholarship (for ages 17 to 19)

Masterfeeds awards annually a scholarship of $1000 to the winning applicant that can demonstrate their passion and potential through an essay about what they hope to achieve for the future of food production or other ag-related pursuits through their education. Applicants may also include what has inspired them to pursue a career field in agriculture. The individual has goals of positively fueling an area of agriculture that will help shape the future of agriculture locally, nationally or globally. Dairy Shrine Klussendorf / McKown Scholarships

Seven scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded, three from the Klussendorf’s Chris Kampf fund and four from the McKown Fund. Students who are eligible include those that are successfully completing theirÌýfirst, second or third years at a 2-year or 4-year college (we have verified with them that FMT students are eligible) or university in the United States or Canada majoring in dairy science, animal science, agri-business, or other related majors that will develop the skills needed to pursue a career in the dairy industry. Scholarships are based on activities, experience, interest in showing dairy cattle and future plans. Check the for eligibility requirements. Deadline to apply is mid-April.

Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction (L.E.A.D.)

CN is the sponsor of the 4-H Canada Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction. L.E.A.D. honours the accomplishments of four special 4-H senior youth members. Each scholarship – with an overall value of $20,000 each over four years – is available to 4-H members aged 16+ who have demonstrated personal values, leadership and community involvement within one of 4-H’s Leadership Development Pillars. They must be in their final year of high school or CEGEP and plan to attend a Canadian post-secondary institution in the Fall. TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarships

4-H Canada awards 14 scholarships valued at $2,500 on behalf of TD Canada Trust. Applicants must be 16+ years old, in their final year of high school or CEGEP and planning to study at a post-secondary institution in September in an agricultural, agri-business or ag-science program. They must be 4-H members in good standing. Applicants must provide: a 500-word essay, 1 reference letter, their letter of acceptance from college/university, and a school transcript. Bayer Fund Opportunity Scholarships

The Bayer Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program is for Canadian high school students from family farms who will be entering a Canadian post-secondary institution (degree or diploma) in their first year of an agriculture program. Successful applicants will each be awarded a $1,500 scholarship based on demonstrated academic standards and leadership in the community.
