Biography:

The general focus of my research program is reproductive issues in women with rheumatic diseases, with the goal of improving reproductive outcomes in women with rheumatic disease and their offspring. I have created the world's largest cohort of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) offspring, leading to novel findings on the increased risk of autism spectrum disorders, congenital heart defects, and stillbirths in SLE offspring. Using a large US database, I have also assessed the risk of serious infections in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) offspring exposed to TNF inhibitors. More recently, I have been working to establish an international cohort of SLE pregnancies, conducting a randomized controlled trial to improve preeclampsia knowledge and aspirin adherence in pregnant SLE women, and creating a large population-based cohort to assess biologic and small molecule drug safety in pregnancy.
