In this “From Failing Hands” podcast excerpt, ƻԺ Education’s Dr. Gordon Bloom (Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education) discusses sport psychology in high performance, as a vital training component for professional athletes and others in high-pressure scenarios. Dr. Bloom highlights the need for athletes to not only train their bodies but to also train their minds and be resilient in order to prepare for competition and performance. He further reiterates that this is an ongoing process; not a quick fix. Moreover, Dr. Bloom describes the growing acceptance of incorporating sports psychology and other specialist roles in team coaching dynamics and how it can make a winning difference. Dr. Bloom was also asked about how the uncertainties of the COVID-19 health crisis is affecting amateur athletes.
