IHDW and Participatory Cultures Lab Present: Making Connections Through Methods: Photo and Object Elicitation

Wednesday, March 10, 2021 10:30to11:30

IHDW and Participatory Cultures Lab are pleased to invite you to "Making Connections Through Methods: Photo and Object Elicitation" on Wednesday, March 10th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM (EST).

This presentation will introduce two increasingly popular visual methods: photo elicitation and object elicitation. In both cases, researchers incorporate participant-selected or researcher-selected visuals into an interview setting and use these prompts to elicit verbal narrative. Why might researchers choose to pursue a photo or object elicitation approach? What are the benefits and challenges associated with these techniques? Lysandre Champagne will explore these questions through a methodological overview based upon a recent review of literature.

Next, Jennifer Owen will reflect on her experiences conducting an object elicitation study among self-storage users in the United Kingdom and consider the ways objects relate to broader life events such as bereavement or moving away from home.
