Aziz Choudry, activist and Canada Research Chair in Social Movement Learning and Knowledge Production at 苹果淫院, will be speaking to issues covered in the upcoming book that he has edited. The book documents experiences around the world of the surveillance, harassment and infiltration that pervades the lives of activists, organisations and movements that are labelled as 鈥榯hreats to national security鈥�.
Problematising the social amnesia that exists within progressive political networks and supposed liberal democracies, Choudry will argue that movements can learn from their own repression, developing a critical and complex understanding of the nature of states, capital and democracy today that can inform the struggles of tomorrow.
Murray Hunter, R2K鈥檚 Secrecy & Securotisation Organiser, will share a South African perspective on the surveillance of activists before we open for discussion with participants.
