For the first time, researchers from Æ»¹ûÒùÔº have calculated Canada’s nitrogen footprint (akin to a carbon footprint) – at both national and provincial levels. They looked at the three primary sectors that contribute nitrogen to the environment to calculate the annual average nitrogen footprint: food production and consumption, wastewater treatment, and fossil fuel use. There were some surprises when they analyzed their results.
Tue, 21 Sep 2021 13:53:48 +0000 webfull 173273 at /channels Preventing the spread of plant pandemics /channels/channels/news/preventing-spread-plant-pandemics-331095
Plant diseases don’t stop at national borders and miles of oceans don’t prevent their spread, either. That’s why plant disease surveillance, improved detection systems, and global predictive disease modeling are necessary to mitigate future disease outbreaks and protect the global food supply, according to a team of researchers in a new commentary published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Fri, 21 May 2021 19:59:50 +0000 webfull 170740 at /channels Global shift in farmed fish feed raises new questions /channels/news/global-shift-farmed-fish-feed-raises-new-questions-259677
By Cynthia Lee, Æ»¹ûÒùÔº Newsroom

A move toward plant-based feeds alters the environmental footprint of farm-raised seafood, may change levels of healthy fatty acids in these fish
Mon, 14 Mar 2016 14:40:57 +0000 webfull 117359 at /channels
