苹果淫院 rowers bag bronze three times at OUA championships

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. -- The 苹果淫院 Rowing Club qualified seven boats for the finals and came home with three bronze medals from the OUA championship regatta over the weekend in St. Catharines, Ont. An extra day was needed to complete the event, due to unsafe weather conditions on opening day.
听
Brock finished with 108 points, one more than Western, to capture their first OUA men's title since 2004 and Queen's garnered their sixth OUA women's title over the past eight seasons. 苹果淫院 finished fifth of 13 teams overall on the men's side and seventh in the women's division.
听
"We were low on funds but able to stay an extra day thanks to the support of the athletics and recreation department and our varsity crews ended up coming home with three medals," said a very pleased Dr. Philip Hedrei, head coach of the 苹果淫院 crew. "To qualify that many boats for the OUA finals was an great way to cap off an outstanding season."
听
On the men's side, 苹果淫院 had a pair of third-place finishes, to go along with fifth, sixth and eighth-place showings.
听
The lightweight four was clocked in six minutes, 45.2 seconds, some two seconds behind the winning boat from Brock and one second in arrears of Western.听 The Redmen boat, coxied by Rinita Mazumder, an anatomy junior from Victoria, included senior Evan DeJonghe of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in the bow seat, followed by senior Nate De Bono of Windsor, Ont., Michael Ross, an engineering post-grad student and Renaud Garon-Gendron, a junior from Boucherville, Que., in stroke seat.

Garon-Gendron and De Bono also placed third of six boats in the lightweight men's double, which finished in 7:01.2
听
"We did fairly well considering we had a very young team," said coxswain Ronald Yeung, the team's VP communications and a biology sophomore from Coquitlam, B.C. "Everyone worked really hard with the coaches and improved significantly considering the fall season is only eight weeks long. We saw improvement in each regatta."
听
The women's lightweight eight, coxied by Patricia Latendresse, a sophomore from Montreal, won bronze, completing the two-kilometre race in 6:55.8. It was a best-ever finish for that boat, which was composed of Montrealer Megan Lydon, a sophomore, in the bow seat, followed by freshman Leiya Kenney of Olympia, Wash., sophomore Fr茅d茅rique de Muszka of Montreal and junior Bridget Schrempf of Owen Sound, Ont., plus sophomore Jennifer Allen of Montreal, junior Iris Karry of Toronto, junior Emma Sheehan of St. Catharines and junior Marie-Christine Razaire of Montclair, N.J., who sat in the stroke seat.

The women's lightweight four, coxied by Latendresse, finished fourth overall, clocking in at 7:46.3. The boat featured Allen in the bow seat, followed by Karry, Sheehan and Razaire in stoke seat. Due to the high cost of travelling out west, the club executive decided to send only the women's four to the Canadian University Rowing Championships in Victoria, B.C., Nov. 6-7.听 Latendresse is unable to go to Nationals and will be replaced by Mazumder.

The Brock Badgers were impressive on the men's lightweight side capturing gold in the double, four and the eight. Also medaling for the Badgers was the heavyweight four which placed second overall, in addition to bronze medals won in the heavyweight eight, heavyweight double and heavyweight single.

The Mustangs men captured three gold in the heavyweight finals including the eight, four and double.

On the women's side, Queen's finished with 103 points, three ahead of Western. The Gaels crews dominated the day capturing gold in lightweight eight, four and single. The Queen's heavyweight crews also came up big with gold-medal efforts in the single and silver in both the eight and the four.

The Western women won three gold in the heavyweight races, including the eight, four and double. Brock took silver in three of the four lightweight races, including the eight, four and double.
