Urban Resilience, 100 Resilient Cities and Montreal

Chee F. Chan, Resilient City

Mr. Chee F. Chan, a Registered Professional Planner, holds a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Science from the University of British Columbia and a Master鈥檚 degree in Urban Planning from 苹果淫院. Chee began focusing on climate adaptation during his Master鈥檚 degree, working with the City of Montreal on identify island-wide urban heat island risks and neighbourhood level solutions. After completing his Master鈥檚 in 2008, Chee joined AECOM Consulting in Montreal, where he has continued to focus on climate adaptation and resilience.

Chee is currently assisting the City of Montreal in the development of its Resilient City Strategy as part of the 100 Resilient City (100 RC) Program.Launched in 2013 and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, the 100 RC Program aims to enhance the resilience of cities in the face of growing physical, social and economic challenges of the 21st听century. To date, 67 cities have been accepted into the program, of which Montreal is the only Canadian city. This presentation will touch on the concepts of urban resilience, and present the 100 RC program and some preliminary outcomes from the Montreal Agenda Setting Workshop, the first step in the development of Montreal鈥檚 Resilient City Strategy.

The Urban Studies @苹果淫院 Seminar Series invites speakers to present on a variety of ongoing research, projects, and issues related to urban studies. The seminars are hosted and organized by the 苹果淫院 School of Urban Planning, with participation from the 苹果淫院 School of Environment, and Department of Geography. The seminars typically run from noon to 1pm on Fridays throughout the semester and are open to students, faculty, and other members of the urban studies group.
