Assistant Professor, Æ»¹ûÒùÔºÌýInstitute for Health and Social PolicyÌý/ÌýSchool of Environment

Chris Barrington-Leigh came to Æ»¹ûÒùÔº in 2011. He is an economist andÌýAssistant Professor at Æ»¹ûÒùÔº's Institute for Health and Social Policy,ÌýSchool of Environment, and Department of Economics. His research isÌýfocused on environment, urban development, and empirical and quantitativeÌýassessments of welfare and their implications for policy. He usesÌýsubjective well-being ("happiness") reports to address the relativeÌýimportance of social and community-oriented aspects of life along withÌýmarket consumption. He received his Economics PhD from the University ofÌýBritish Columbia, and previously trained in upper atmospheric and spaceÌýplasma physics at M.I.T, Stanford University, and U.C. Berkeley.

The Urban Studies @Æ»¹ûÒùÔº Seminar Series invites speakers to present on a variety of ongoing research, projects, and issues related to urban studies. The seminars are hosted and organized by the Æ»¹ûÒùÔº School of Urban Planning, with participation from the Æ»¹ûÒùÔº School of Environment, and Department of Geography. The seminars typically run from noon to 1pm on Fridays throughout the semester and are open to students, faculty, and other members of the urban studies group.
