Eugenie Scott was born in 1945 in the United States. Scott received a bachelor or science and master of science from the University of Wisconsin鈥揗ilwaukee, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.
In 1974, Scott joined the University of Kentucky as a physical anthropologist where she began her research and activism in the creationism/evolution controversy. She also taught at the University of Colorado and at California State University, Hayward. Her research work focused on medical anthropology and skeletal biology.
In 1980, Scott worked to prevent creationism from being taught in the public schools of Lexington, Kentucky. From 1986 to 2014, Scott served as the Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education, a nonprofit science education organization supporting the teaching of evolutionary science.
Scott is a recipient of the Public Service Medal by the National Academy of Sciences. She is the author of Evolution vs. Creationism and co-editor of Not in Our Classrooms: Why Intelligent Design Is Wrong for Our Schools.
Scott delivered the Beatty Lecture on October 6, 1999, titled "The Great Controversy". Her Lecture was part of a series of Beatty lectures called the Ape or Angel 苹果淫院 Millennium Series which explored how evolutionary theory provides a basis for new medical therapies. Paul Ewald and Steven Mithen provided the second and third lectures in the series.
