However, few studies have examined the risk factors for depression in individuals who have been infected with Covid-19. In other areas of research, catastrophic thinking has been associated with an increased risk of developing depressive symptoms. The present study examined the relation between catastrophic thinking and depression in individuals who were infected with Covid-19 in the past six months.
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 17:31:42 +0000 Mariella Berberi 4176 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Bria LaBella /arts-internships/article/aria-spotlight-bria-labella
Research, generally speaking, is set up in an objectivistic dialogue. While this report will be as objective as possible, save for the reflection, it is worth noting that any philosophical or anthropological research requires a level of recognition of the subject. It would be with great remise if this project did not acknowledge my own feelings, reflections, and general point of view throughout the course of this research. When immersed in a different culture, part of ‘deep interpretation’ as Clifford Geertz calls it, is to be a participant in the culture at hand.
Thu, 30 Nov 2023 16:25:30 +0000 Bria LaBella 4322 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Jack Zimakas /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-jack-zimakas
Remittance flows are the largest capital inflows into Sub-Saharan Africa, exceeding both foreign direct investment and official development assistance. Why and how have some African states been successful in harnessing labor remittance flows for long-term investment and national development, while others have failed to accomplish these objectives?
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:58:04 +0000 Jack Zimakas 4199 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Mariel Yacolca Maguina /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-mariel-yacolca-maguina
My ARIA project was about an algorithm called AutoIV. An instrumental variable is an econometric method used to estimate causal relations between variables given the presence of a confounder variable. However, a usual issue is that they are very hard to find because they must satisfy exclusion and association criterias, the first one being unverifiable. The AutoIV method was developed by Yuan et al (2022) and uses a series of statistical artificats to artificially create an instrumental variable from other observed data.
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:51:55 +0000 Mariel Yacolca Maguina 4198 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Suki Wang /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-suki-wang
My ARIA research project consisted of a literature review investigating the dimensions of quality of life in autistic adolescents and adults, and what are the predictors concerning the quality of life in that population. After identifying those predictors in a literature review, I investigated further by looking at how individual characteristics compare to environmental factors when it comes to predicting quality of life.
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:48:11 +0000 Suki Wang 4197 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Adrienne Vandenberg /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-adrienne-vandenberg
Thanks to the generous donation of Dr. Alan and Jennifer Ritter, I was able to pursue a environmental scan project in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology under the supervision of Marie-Hélène Pennestri. This project examined the communication quality of infant sleep resources aimed at parents in Canada, and gave recommendations for the improvement of these resources in line with recommendations in the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Clear Communication Index.
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:41:08 +0000 Adrienne Vandenberg 4196 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Dana Prather /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-dana-prather
My ARIA research project dealt with documenting and analyzing the history of English-language drama and theatre arts in Québec. In particular, my research examined the impact of women artists and feminist perspectives in Montréal’s anglophone theatre community from the mid-20th to the early 21st century. This project was supervised by Prof. Erin Hurley and is part of her larger book-length study, The Companies We Keep: The History of English-Language Theatre in Québec, 1930 – 2015.
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:24:39 +0000 Dana Prather 4194 at /arts-internships ARIA Spotlight: Charlotte Pink /arts-internships/article/aria-internship-spotlight/aria-spotlight-charlotte-pink
My ARIA project, under the supervision of Professor Kevin Manaugh, covers the conditions that produced 1960s-1970s urban renewal programs in Montreal, QC, and Vancouver, BC, and the adverse effects on the low-income communities of colour these programs targeted.
